December 2017 | ISE Magazine 63 NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY The College of Engineering and Engineering Technology at Northern Illinois University (NIU) continues its growth trajectory that it has been experiencing over the past several years. There are a number of strategic hires planned for the upcoming year as proposals for two new Bachelor's degree programs in Biomedical Engineering and Mechatronics, and three new Ph.D. programs in Electrical, Industrial and Systems, and Mechanical Engineering are under consideration. These strategic hires will facilitate interdisciplinary research collaborations to broaden the research portfolio of the college and individual departments. The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISYE) at Northern Illinois University (NIU) invites applications for one anticipated tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level beginning August 16, 2018. Successful applicants are expected to hold a doctoral degree in ISYE or related field with teaching interests and research experiences in digital manufacturing, manufacturing processes and systems, sustainability, and green engineering. Applicants are expected to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses, establish a strong externally funded research program, supervise undergraduate and graduate students in engaged and experiential learning programs, collaborate with regional stakeholders, and actively serve the department, college, university, and community. The department consists of 9 full time faculty members, 130 undergraduate and 151 graduate students. The department offers an ABET accredited B.S. (with emphasis in Manufacturing Systems, Health Systems, and Engineering Management; a minor in Sustainable Engineering), a M.S. in ISYE, and a M.S. in ISYE with specialization in Engineering Management. Laboratories for manufacturing, ergonomics, reliability, and logistics are well established in the department. There are opportunities to collaborate on research with faculty across the campus whose research thrust is in the area of digital manufacturing and sustainability. Strong ties with industries in the Northern Illinois region have helped ISYE faculty to attract externally funded research projects on a regular basis. NIU actively facilitates opportunities to collaborate with researchers from Argonne, Fermi, and UI Labs. NIU has over 19,000 students and is located approximately 65 miles west of Chicago. NIU's vision is to be the premier student-centered, research-focused public university in the Midwest contributing to the advancement of knowledge for the benefit of the people of the region, the state, the nation, and the world. Completed applications will be reviewed beginning January 3, 2018, and will be accepted until the position is filled. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and achievements. Submit a cover letter, statements of teaching and research interests, and curriculum vita (include names and contact information of three professional references) through the NIU Human Resource Services' online job application system (https://employment.niu.edu/postings/30516). For additional information about the position contact the search committee chair by writing to pdamodaran@niu.edu or calling (815) 753-5660.
